Human Having a Spiritual Existence?
Posted March 29, 2009 in Divinity.
YOU ARE A HUMAN BEING HAVING A SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE.
Do you believe this statement?
If you do, probably, for you, life does not make sense.

We are sentient beings. We think ALL the time. We even tend to over-think. Our minds are incredible super computers that work non stop 24/7. Our minds are capable of observation, examination, scrutiny, analysis, dissection, classification, deduction, and conclusion. In our dreaming state, we work with symbolism. We are able to build metaphors, allegories. And, using logic, we are experts at deluding ourselves.
Still, life does not seem to make sense. No matter how many questions we ask, we find no reasonable answers.
When we ask questions like:
- Why am I alive?
- What is my objective in life?
- What am I?
- Who am I?
- Why do bad things happen to me?
- Why the suffering?
- Why must I die?
We never seem to find satisfactory answers to these questions. But we need answers. It is in our nature to question and we do not feel satisfied until we find answers. In despair, we accept the will of a creator, a being beyond our comprehension, who pulls the strings of our life in a play of the absurd. Here we have an answer, but it still does not make sense. This answer just creates more questions:
- Why did God create me?
- Why is a baby born blind?
- Why do people die young?
- What is God’s will?
- Is there a life after death?
And
- Who is God?
- Is God a sadist, a killer, a father figure, a monster, an avenger, or a loving despot?
More painful still: Does God really exist?
Who knows? Who can figure any of this out? This type of reasoning alienates us further, making life even more of a mystery, and death, the unknown, even more of a threat. We make our lives and that of others a misery and we call it “the will of God”!
Based in all this fear, we invent stories we believe blindly, and this blind belief we call faith.
These stories cannot be questioned since they are based on weak structures that make them unable to stand the filter of reason. We brainwash ourselves, and our kids, with countless repetitions and threats; until we convince ourselves that our stories are “the truth”. We repress our sexuality, re-directing its energy into imbalance, making ourselves an easier pray to fanaticism. Consequently, we pervert it, and turn it into violence of all kinds. All this has become a power game. We divest women of their rightful place, inventing a man-god. This leads to all kinds of discrimination, and more and more violence. We terrorize ourselves through fear of death. We force others to follow our particular story. We kill them if they don’t. An unbeliever, the personification of our inner doubt, is a huge threat to us.
We spend a lot of time, shed a lot of blood, and waste a lot of energy, trying to make sense of life.
In spite of all this, life does not make sense. Why? Why doesn’t life make sense?
